Emma Fernández-Repollet, PhD, joined the Department of Pharmacology faculty at the University of Puerto Rico Medical School in 1982. Her academic experience includes teaching medical, graduate, and dental students and maintaining an active Research Center in Minority Institutions (RCMI) program focused on developing research infrastructure since 1986. She served as Vice President for Research of the University of Puerto Rico System for seven years. A Distinguished Puerto Rican Women in STEM award in 2017 recognized her contributions to teaching and stimulating research in science in Puerto Rico.
In 2007, Dr. Fernández-Repollet was recognized as a Distinguished Ex-Alumni Graduate by the School of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Puerto Rico Medical Sciences Campus. She received the 2008 Fred Greenwood Award in recognition of her contributions to research administration and health disparities and the 2021 Puerto Rico Faces of Bioscience Award for her influence on the biomedical sciences in the island.
She is a member of the External Advisory Committees of the RCMI Programs at Meharry Medical College, the University of Hawaii at Manoa, Texas Southern University and City University of New York. She is also Chair of the RCMI Coordinating Center Steering Committee, a national network of RCMI institutions. She serves as Technology Transfer Liaison at the UPR Medical Sciences Campus.
She received her BA in Education from the University of Puerto Rico Rio Piedras Campus, her MS and PhD in Physiology from the University of Puerto Rico Medical Sciences Campus, and postdoctoral training in renal physiology at Duke University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
