Fabian Sandoval, MD, President & CEO of Emerson Clinical Research Institute (ECRI), has over 30 years of research experience spanning academia, healthcare systems, and the public sector. He is an international expert and keynote speaker on diversity in clinical research. Before founding ECRI, Dr. Sandoval conducted bench research at the National Institutes of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) on Early-onset Alzheimer’s Disease and Cretzfelt-Jakob Disease. He also supported an NIH RO1 grant on preventing epilepsy in post-traumatic brain injury patients at Washington Hospital Center and Children’s National Medical Center.
Dr. Sandoval served as the Supervisory Research Integrity & Compliance Officer in the Army Human Research Protections Office, overseeing Human Research Protection Programs across Army commands. He has been instrumental in protocol development, education, and training for resident and hospital faculty.
Dr. Sandoval is a four-time Emmy winner and hosts the weekly medical TV show “Tu Salud Tu Familia” (Your Family Your Health). He is a medical contributor for Telemundo, NBC, and Univision, and serves on the Leadership Council of the Society for Clinical Research Sites (SCRS). He is also an external advisor to Genentech Roche and a renowned keynote speaker on increasing minority engagement in clinical trials.
He founded the Emerson Community Clinic to support uninsured patients in the DC metro area and the Emerson Diversity Health Foundation to educate patients and providers on clinical research and access to care.
Dr. Sandoval holds a BS in molecular and cellular biology from Marymount University and an MD from the Autonomous University of Guadalajara, School of Medicine.
