Janet Woodcock, MD recently retired from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) after a 36-year career at the Agency.  She most recently was Principal Deputy Commissioner.  Prior to that she served as Acting FDA Commissioner and was therapeutics lead for Operation Warp Speed.   She was Director of the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER) at FDA for over twenty years in two different periods.

Dr. Woodcock began her career at the FDA in 1986 and has held various leadership roles including Chief Medical Officer, Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Commissioner.

Before joining CDER, Dr. Woodcock served as Director of the Office of Therapeutics Research and Review, and Acting Deputy Director in FDA’s Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research.

Dr. Woodcock has received numerous honors, including the Nathan Davis Award from the American Medical Association and the Biotechnology Heritage Award. She holds a BS in chemistry from Bucknell University and an MD from Northwestern University.
